International technology firm Ruckus Wireless has projected a surge in the uptake of Wi-Fi in Kenya in 2014.
Michael Fletcher, sales director for Ruckus Wireless sub-Saharan Africa noted that increasing demand for constant access would make 2014 a “breakout” year for Wi-Fi in the East African country.
“While we have seen a large uptake from the hospitality and education sectors, we are likely to see more Wi-Fi in public places and hotels who would be forced to provide good quality Wi-Fi and in most cases for free just like hot water,” said Fletcher.
The uptake of Wi-Fi connections has been on the increase in the country as competition among industries intensifies.
Hotels were among the first business premises to install Wi-Fi internet connections, which was quickly adapted by beauty salons and entertainment joints.
Other institutions such as banks followed suit and the passenger service vehicles have not been left behind in that regard as installation of Wi-Fi becomes a trend.
The majority of the commuters within the capital city, Nairobi, have internet-enabled handsets, which enable them to enjoy the Wi-Fi services.
