Mobile-first car insurance launched in Nigeria

Airtel Nigeria financial services subsidiary, SmartCash Payment Service Bank, has teamed up with Leadway Assurance to launch mobile-first car insurance for motorists.

Through this collaboration, users can now purchase Leadway’s third-party and AutoBase comprehensive car insurance via the SmartCash mobile app or USSD code.

With a premiums starting at ₦15,000 ($9.72), the entire process from selection of plan to payment and issuance of a digital policy document can be completed in less than three minutes, according to the companies.

“This collaboration allows us to bring stress-free, mobile-first insurance to more Nigerians,” said Tunde Kuponiyi, CEO of SmartCash “It’s part of our wider goal to make financial services more accessible to everyday people.”

For Leadway Assurance, the partnership provides a new distribution channel. “With SmartCash, we can now deliver real-time insurance services on a platform many Nigerians already trust and use daily,” said Kike Fischer, director of sales, retail and partnerships at Leadway Assurance.
