Microsoft's Lumia 830 smartphone is now available for purchase in South Africa, the company announced on Thursday.

The Lumia 830 is part of the latest range of Microsoft devices, and will be available in orange, green and white.

Microsoft says the Lumia will be available exclusively from Vodacom stores for a recommended retail price of R5,989 or from R359 per month on contract.

The new Lumia runs on Microsoft's latest version of Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Denim for faster connections.

Other features include a 16GB internal storage and 15GB free OneDrive storage, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a 10-megapixel PureView camera for high image and video quality.

Microsoft hasn't been the only smartphone maker to announce the availability of its devices in South Africa.

Earlier this month it was announced that Apple's new flagship smartphones, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus would be launched in the country later this month.

Struggling smartphone maker BlackBerry also announced that its square screen smartphone, the Passport, is coming to South Africa in early November 2014.
