Mauritius is seeking to strengthen regional digital collaboration through an export promotion mission for information and communication technology (ICT) services targeting fellow Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries.
The Mauritius-Africa Export of ICT Services Roadshow, organised by the Economic Development Board (EDB), concludes on Wednesday after touring Botswana, Namibia, and Zambia.
The most recent leg of the mission was held in Lusaka under the aegis of the Mauritius-Zambia ICT Business Forum. The forum is a collaboration between the Zambia Development Agency and the EDB.
Mauritius has developed a robust ICT ecosystem, particularly in areas such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, which are key priorities for Zambia’s digital growth, says Felix Mutati, Zambia's minister of technology and science.
Mutati, who officially opened the forum in Lusaka, highlighted the growing significance of the ICT sector to the Zambian economy.
He called for increased investment, knowledge exchange, and strategic partnerships to drive innovation and build resilience for sustainable digital transformation.
The roadshow aims to position Mauritius as a high-tech services hub for the region, leveraging its stable regulatory environment and skilled workforce, says Ken Poonoosamy, CEO of the EDB.
The event in Zambia brought together government officials and ICT enterprises from both nations to explore strategic partnerships.
Discussions also touched upon leveraging the existing Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement to lower the cost of cross-border tech investments between the two Southern African countries.
By fostering these linkages, both nations aim to accelerate their digital transformation agendas and create a more integrated regional tech market, according to the EDB.
