Blantyre City Council has partnered with NBS Bank to accelerate the digitalisation of revenue collection, a move, it says, that aims to simplify payment processes for residents and improve service delivery.
Under the partnership, the council plans to introduce digital payment systems that will enable residents to pay for council services electronically, reducing reliance on manual and in-person transactions.
Mayor for Blantyre City Council Isaac Jomo Osman said the collaboration will focus on modernising the council’s revenue collection systems, particularly for tax payments.
Writing on his Facebook page, Osman said: “Our agreement aims to digitalise our tax collection process and explore other areas of collaboration.”
Officials say the introduction of digital payment platforms will allow residents to make payments more conveniently and securely while enabling the council to process transactions faster and improve financial management.
Government and development partners have, in recent years, intensified initiatives aimed at promoting digital transformation across public institutions.
Among the key national initiatives supporting this agenda is the Digital Malawi Acceleration Project, which seeks to expand digital connectivity and strengthen the delivery of public services through technology.
