The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) recently launched Msonkho online, a web-based integrated tax administration system that allows taxpayers to access a range of services.
According to MRA's project communications manager, Henry Mchazime, the platform also has robust safety features.
The tax authority said the platform is convenient, secure, and accessible at all times, and it is encouraging citizens to use it.
A user can create an account via the site and file returns and pay taxes, thereby 'reducing logistical delays and avoidable errors'.
"Through the platform, taxpayers are able to monitor and follow their tax transactions through their MRA account on Msonkho Online, which enables them to easily query any suspicious transaction," Mchazime told the Nation newspaper.
The platform includes modules for implementing and monitoring important activities of modern tax administration, such as registration, de-registration, assessment, taxpayer accounting, audit, compliance, case management, objections, and appeals.
Msonkho Online is part of Malawi's modernisation programme, which aims to improve tax administration efficiencies.
It can manage a number of domestic and international trade taxes, such as income tax, value added tax, withholding tax, fringe benefits tax, provisional tax, turnover tax, and pay-as-you-earn.
