Malawi's Ministry of Education and the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) released the 2026 Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examination results on Monday, with candidates able to access them online.
Previously, printed results had to be physically delivered to districts, creating challenges for remote schools and straining resources.
That changed in 2022, when the board introduced an e-registration system that allowed examination centres to register candidates online.
In 2024, the board introduced e-results portals, allowing candidates and examination centres to access examination results directly, while examination fees can be paid through banks and mobile wallets.
“Examination centres have registration portals where they capture and register candidates, and the same portals are the ones through which they access their examination results in the comfort of their homes,” MANEB public relations manager Angella Kashitigu told ITWeb Africa in an interview.
The new arrangement means that candidates have greater control over payments for examination fees, reducing the risk of money being misappropriated by teachers who previously collected payments on behalf of students, Kashitigu said.
Kashitigu added: “Previously, there have been cases of students failing to successfully register because they didn't pay examination fees, but now the responsibility lies in their own hands as students or as parents, and they do have to make this payment on their own.
“Once the payment has been done, our system shows right there and then that the registration has been successful, and this has also improved our work, delivery, and even the time that it takes to carry out the registration processes and prepare for the examination administration itself."
Of the 188,169 candidates who sat the 2026 MSCE examination, 111,510 passed, representing a 59.26% pass rate.
