As part of its ongoing investment and network growth in Uganda, mobile virtual network operator Lyca Mobile has launched a SIM card that allows users to access a number of data options.
According to the firm, the SUPA SIM also offers unlimited Lyca-to-Lyca calling and is free to subscribers. In addition to the SIM card, the operator is launching a new voice package that slashes call expenses by 67% across all networks.
The initiatives come as the British firm announced a strategic restructure earlier this year, aimed at trimming certain business areas and operations, improving digital capabilities, and positioning the company for long-term growth, following the shutdown of its South African operations back in January 2024 after launching in 2017.
In order to ensure enhanced customer experience, Lyca Mobile has partnered with multiple fintech service providers in the East African nation, offering multiple options to recharge, adding to regular telecom agents and retail outlets. Customers also have access to digital payment platforms.
Prem Sivasamy, deputy chairman, Lyca Group, commented: “Lyca Mobile serves over 16 million customers worldwide and we are always looking to see how we can keep new and existing customers connected. Our network expansion in Uganda is part of our commitment to ensure that wherever our customers are, they are able to take advantage of the mobile plans that we offer.”
