Lesotho is set to bolster its digital transformation strategy by leveraging proven frameworks from Vodacom’s broader African portfolio.
The move follows a visit from a Vodacom Group delegation to the Mountain Kingdom, marking a pivotal milestone in a public-private partnership designed to fast-track the government’s ambitious digitisation agenda.
Spearheaded by ICT minister Nthati Moorosi, the government is seeking to speed up digital transformation in the Mountain Kingdom
Vodacom delegation was led by Mohamed Abdallah, CEO of Vodafone Egypt and recently appointed head of International Markets.
Ayman Essam, the chief officer of regulatory and external affairs for the Vodacom Group, and the leadership team of Vodacom Lesotho, which included CEO Mohale Ralebitso and head of regulatory affairs Tšepo Ntaopane, accompanied Abdallah.
In addition to highlighting the pressing need for infrastructure that supports e-governance, financial inclusion, and enhanced public service delivery, Moorosi reaffirmed the government's commitment to building a "Digital Lesotho" throughout the discussions.
"The group with the minister's envoy talked about digital partnership during this courtesy. Vodacom would assist the Lesotho government in digitising through this cooperation, much as it did in Kenya and Egypt, the ministry said.
The ministry added: “It is during this courtesy that the group with the minister’s envoy discussed digital partnership. This partnership will help Lesotho government digitise with the help of Vodacom as it did in Kenya and Egypt,”
This collaboration, Vodacom said, is expected to provide the technical blueprint necessary for the Lesotho government to modernise its systems, drawing on the successful precedents set by the operator's international counterparts.
