Lesotho's government has committed $24.07 million to the Ministry of Information, Communications, Science, Technology, and Innovation to advance national connectivity, modernise public digital systems, and enhance service delivery through innovative solutions.

The investment, announced following this week's National Budget and Development Plan meeting in Maseru, is part of the state's strategy to accelerate digital transformation, strengthen national digital infrastructure, and expand access to information and communication technologies (ICT) across the Mountain Kingdom.

A significant portion of the funding will be directed toward upgrading ICT infrastructure within public institutions, improving cybersecurity resilience, and expanding affordable public internet access points, particularly for youth.

By prioritising modern digital tools and platforms, the government seeks to strengthen education, entrepreneurship, and public sector efficiency while fostering a technology-enabled environment that supports sustainable economic growth.

Retšelisitsoe Matlanyane minister of finance and development planning emphasised the transformative importance of the allocation, saying: “This $20.7 million (M386.4m) will empower Basotho, bridge connectivity gaps, and spark innovation for a thriving economy.”
