Over 300 youth from communities in the Ifako-Ijaiye area of Lagos state are to benefit from an information and communications technology (ICT) training programmes.

The exercise is a brainchild of member of the Lagos House of Assembly, Dayo Saka Fafunmi.

The lawmaker said empowering the youth would make them self-employed.

He emphasised that since youth are future leaders, he had decided that the majority of his constituency programmes would be targeted towards youngsters.

He added that about 150 youth would also benefit from his fashion designing project which will commence next week.

“I am training 320 youths in ICT and 150 in fashion designing. I want to use this to generate economic activities in the area. Instead of waiting for non-existing government jobs, the youths will have an opportunity to develop themselves and become self-employed in the nearest future,” he stated.

According to Fafunmi, the ICT training programme is planned to last between four and six months.

The ICT programme, he said, would run three shifts daily.

Experienced professionals have also been employed for the tasks, he said.

The lawmaker urged the beneficiaries to make the most of the training programmes.
