Kenyans are drumming up yet another political trending topic on Twitter: this time on the country’s opposition leader and former prime minister Raila Odinga.

Twitter trend #BabaWhileYouWereAway is topping the social media charts in Kenya as Odinga -- who is called ‘baba’ by his followers - is set to return to the country after two-month trip to the US.

Odinga has been visiting the US on a university lecture tour and is expected to return to Kenya on Saturday.

In the meantime, #BabaWhileYouWereAway has become the biggest trending topic on Twitter in Africa on Thursday, according to Trendsmap.com.

A lot of the tweets are nonsensical, but many of them maintain a sense of humour.

“#BabaWhileYouWereAway David moyes was shown the exit,” tweeted KING KONG (~_o), @ahmedjush, referring to football team Manchester United’s former coach, who was sacked after a poor season.

Kenya is no stranger to hot topics on Twitter.

After South African sports and recreation minister Fikile Mbalula made controversial comments at a media briefing about Kenyan athletes, he sparked a nasty Twitter war with Kenya that resulted in #someonetellsouthafrica becoming a top trending topic in Africa.
