Kenya's switchover from analogue to digital TV broadcasting has again experienced a delay as the country's Supreme Court suspended the process following a legal challenge by three media groups, according to a report by Capital FM.
ICT authorities had initially stipulated 31 December 2014 as the deadline for analogue signal switch-off in Nairobi.
However, a consortium consisting of the Nation Media Group, Royal Media Services and Standard Group had sought legal intervention over the deadline, arguing insufficient time to prepare the necessary digital transmission infrastructure.
Capital FM reports that Deputy Chief Justice Kalpana Rawal suspended the migration pending a new case set for 05 January.
Kenya's digital migration has been hampered by delays as well as legal wrangling between the Regulator and broadcast houses.
In the run up to the 31 December deadline regional media quoted Kenya's ICT cabinet secretary Fred Matiang'i as saying that Nairobi had over 1,5 million set top boxes to fulfil the requirements of approximately 1.26 million households.
