A Kenyan start-up app which enables customers to buy medicine and health products affordable and conveniently from their mobile phones, MYDAWA, has reached 10 000 customers in its four months of launching.
The Nairobi-based company says it embarked on an aggressive awareness and recruitment drive to bolster subscriptions. It projects to grow its customer base in Nairobi to 30 000 in the coming three months before rolling out to other parts of the country.
According to the company, the platform allows users to buy medicine and health products affordably from the convenience of their mobile phone, via its web or mobile applications. Users can even upload a photo of their prescription onto the platform and payments are made via M-Pesa, "the products are delivered free of charge to a collection point of your convenience."
As reported by Tech News Kenya, MYDAWA was launched in Nairobi in March this year with the aim of revolutionising the pharmaceutical sector.
"We would like to thank all our users for their continued support and valuable feedback which has been instrumental in shaping our service so far. As MYDAWA looks to grow its customer base, we stay committed to providing them with quality and affordable medicine and health products that give them peace of mind" said the company's MD, Tony Wood.
With the announcement coming barely two weeks after the Kenya Association of Pharmaceutical Industry released a survey noting the commonness of unregulated medicine in the Kenyan market, Wood says customers can be sure of genuine quality products. "Further, we provide them with a secure mechanism that allows them to verify authenticity. We are standing on our promise of delivering quality, affordable medicine, conveniently," he adds.
The number of products available on the platform has increased with now over 1000 products, ranging from prescription and over the counter drugs to wellness products including multivitamins, supplements, personal care, cosmetics and hygiene products. The company says each product is secured with a unique tamper-evident seal that allows customers to verify the authenticity of the products.
MYDAWA is expected to unveil other connected partnerships in the coming weeks in a bid to drive further value for users.
