The Kenya Internet Exchange Point (KIXP) is set to be hosted by Liquid Telecom company East Africa Data Centre.
After more than ten years since its establishment in 2002, the internet exchange point will get a new home, says the Telecommunications Service Providers Association of Kenya (TESPOK)
The move is aimed at increasing KIXP’s capacity to help Kenyan internet service providers to more easily exchange traffic within Kenya without having to rely on international data traffic.
“This is an important strategic decision for the Kenyan telecom market as we herald a new future for interconnection in Kenya and the region as a whole,” said Fiona Asonga, TESPOK chief executive officer.
“We are extremely happy with our choice of the East Africa Data Centre. It has an excellent reputation for quality, reliability and service,” added Asonga.
After a tender process that involved seven companies, East Africa Data Centre won the contract to host the KIXP.
