IColo, a digital Realty company, has offered its support for the recent co-operative agreement between London Internet Exchange (LINX) and Internet Exchange Incubator, Asteroid, to take over the company's Kenyan interconnectivity operations.
Previously announced in September, Asteroid will cease operations in the East African country at the end of 2025, five years after it set up its Mombasa and Nairobi interconnection services.
According to LINX, iColo’s carrier-neutral data centres have been pivotal its growth in Kenya.
The company said the carrier’s facilities; Mombasa One in Miritini and Mombasa Two in Nyali host the majority of the Asteroid customer networks impacted by this transition, making their involvement essential to the success of this initiative.
Nurani Nimpuno, LINX's head of global engagement, emphasised that all parties involved are working closely together and providing customers and soon-to-be LINX members with one-on-one services to discuss their network needs.
She commented: “It has been great to see how smooth the transition has been so far, with so many Kenyan networks joining LINX and gaining access to a whole suite of new interconnection services. This solidifies our belief that Kenya is well positioned as a major East African hub, supporting improved connectivity for the entire region.”
Marcel Louw, managing director, Africa at Digital Realty, added: “Our partnership has already delivered strong results in Nairobi and Mombasa, and we look forward to enabling further growth and innovation in East Africa’s digital ecosystem.”
