Emerging Ghanaian fintech innovators will gain access to technical and scaling support through the 2026 MoMo Fintech Lab, according to digital payments company Hubtel, which has partnered with Mobile Money Fintech Limited (MMFL) as official technology partner for the three-month initiative.
Launched at the Accra Marriott Hotel, the programme will combine hackathons, mentorship, and incubation across three zones — Accra, Kumasi, and Tamale — before culminating in a national demo day.
The initiative comes as digital payments accelerate across the country, with Bank of Ghana data showing mobile-money transactions reached 982 million in December 2025, valued at GH¢518.4 billion (about $47.44 billion).
Hubtel will draw on its operational experience to assist participants in converting ideas into practical solutions for the market, said Nana Owusu-Marfo, head of brand and user experience at Hubtel.
The company aims to help innovators bridge the gap between initial concepts and building solutions capable of operating at scale, Owusu-Marfo added.
Samuel Nartey George, minister for communication, digital technology and innovation, said stronger support for technology startups is crucial, particularly patient capital that can sustain businesses through early growth stages.
The three-city framework is expected to widen access to fintech opportunities beyond the capital, providing regional innovators with direct exposure to industry networks.
The MoMo Fintech Lab represents a long-term commitment to strengthening Ghana's fintech ecosystem and building an inclusive digital economy, said Shaibu Haruna, chief executive officer of MMFL.
By extending the programme to Kumasi and Tamale, the organisations aim to expand Ghana's innovation pipeline and foster homegrown solutions for businesses and consumers nationwide.
