Chinese technology solutions provider Huawei has launched its first ever store in Africa.

The store, based at Vodacom World in Johannesburg, South Africa had its official opening on Wednesday even though it has already been operating since February 12, according to a press statement.

The store is planned to offer customers direct access to Huawei devices and technical support.

“We have seen significant growth in South Africa. Launching a local store is a key element to cater to the growing demand from our customers and further establish our brand in the country,” said Bruce Wong, Huawei key account general manager for Vodacom.

Wong added that Africa is a key market for Huawei.

“The opening of our first store cements our commitment to South Africa and the continent. We have expansion plans in place to open additional stores in other parts of South Africa in the very near future. The launch of our store in Johannesburg is just the beginning,” he added.

As at the end of 2013, Huawei’s products and services are deployed in over 140 countries, serving more than one third of the world’s population.

Huawei ranked third in global smartphone shipments in 2013, according to International Data Corporation (IDC).
