Hormuud Salaam Foundation (HSF), the philanthropic arm of Hormuud Telecom, has equipped a new information and communication technology laboratory at the Gaheyr campus of Somali National University.

Somalia minister of education, culture and higher education Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir inaugurated the facility alongside Somali National University president Dr Mohamed Mahmoud Mohamed and HSF chairman Abdullahi Nur Osman.

The facility features 34 computers and interactive touchscreen boards designed for technical instruction.

The laboratory will play a pivotal role in modernising national educational infrastructure, said minister of education, culture and higher education Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir.

A rapidly growing telecommunications sector is driving Somalia towards a formal digital economy, increasing local demand for tech-literate professionals and mobile money expertise.

The initiative underscores an ongoing commitment to expanding digital literacy and unlocking academic opportunities for youth, according to Nur Osman.
