South African-founded GoTyme Bank (formerly TymeBank) has been named Africa’s Best digital Bank at the Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2026.
The annual awards recognise financial institutions that demonstrate strong performance, innovation and customer impact.
According to the company, the recognition follows its rapid growth and highlights its digital banking model, which combines app-based services with a nationwide retail footprint.
Since launching in South Africa in 2019, GoTyme Bank has grown to serve 13 million customers, becoming one of the country’s fastest-growing digital banks. The bank was also among the digital banks to reach profitability rapidly.
The bank enables customers to open accounts without complex paperwork or branch visits. Users complete biometric identity verification, receive activated debit cards at GoTyme kiosks, and access banking services through its app, including instant payments and smart controls.
Commenting on the recognition, Cheslyn Jacobs, CEO of GoTyme Bank, said: “This award belongs to our customers and our team. Our ambition has always been to build a bank that works for everyone – not just those who have traditionally been well served by the financial system. By making banking simple, affordable and immediately accessible, we’re helping millions of South Africans participate more fully in the economy.”
