These words, which link to a TechCrunch article, are succinctly placed at the footer of South Africa’s Takealot.com promotion web page marketing its sale of Google Glass.
Google Glass is smart device eyewear which has features such as a camera that can take photos and record video, and natural voice commands.
And Takealot.com is among the first to sell the gadget in South Africa: albeit at almost double its value.
Google Glass in the US is being sold for $1,500. In South Africa, Google Glass’s price tag is R26,999 or approximately $2,700.
The TakeAlot.com website says there is limited availability of the stock as well.
Meanwhile, Google Glass Black with split style frames and edge style frames are being sold by the e-commerce store.
The market for wearable technology worldwide; though, is forecast to grow strongly in years to come.
According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), wearable technology shipment volumes exceeding 19 million units in 2014, more than tripling last year's sales, while the global market is expected to swell to 111.9 million units in 2018.
Takealot.com’s move to sell Google Glass in South Africa also comes after the company received a funding round boost worth $100 million earlier this year from Tiger Global.
Subsequently, the e-commerce unit also announced that technology entrepreneur Willem van Biljon had joined its ranks as co-chief executive officer and chief technology officer.
Van Biljon co-founded Mosaic Software, the creators of the Postilion payment system, and was one of the leaders that built Amazon’s EC2 cloud service and Nimbula.
