Global search engine, Google, has added 360-degree views of the top of some of the world’s highest mountains to its online map service, Street View.
Using Google Street View, users can now virtually view mountains such as Kilimanjaro in Africa, Mount Elbrus in Europe, Aconcagua in South America, and the Everest base camp in Nepal.
The images added onto the online map service were taken by Street View teams who had to climb the different mountains to get the required shots.
The team took the pictures with tripod-mounted digital cameras equipped with a fisheye lens to capture 360-degree views.
In a blog post the company wrote, “While there's nothing quite like standing on the mountain, with Google Maps you can instantly transport yourself to the top of these peaks and enjoy the sights without all of the avalanches, rock slides, crevasses, and dangers from altitude and weather that mountaineers face."
