Ghana and Zambia have officially strengthened their collaboration in technology and digital transformation following a reciprocal visit by a Zambian delegation this week.
Led by Felix Mutati, minister of technology and science, the delegation met with Ghanaian counterparts to advance the partnership initiated during a high-level visit to Zambia in February.
The growing partnership between the two nations serves as a model for South-South cooperation, said Samuel Nartey George, Ghana’s minister for communications and digitalisation .
Even in areas where Ghana appears more advanced, it is learning valuable lessons from Zambia, he added.
Ghana and Zambia are currently engaged in discussions to explore the mutual recognition of fintech licenses between the two countries. This move is expected to reduce regulatory barriers and accelerate the expansion of digital financial services across both markets.
Zambia is eager to collaborate on consolidating its foundational systems to support innovation and digital transactions, George said. The transition involves moving from isolated systems to integrated platforms, leveraging Ghana’s experience in digital ID and fintech.
The collaboration is part of a broader effort by African countries to prioritise partnerships in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, energy and digital finance. During an official visit to Zambia in February, ten memoranda of understanding were signed across various sectors to strengthen economic cooperation.
African problems must be solved with African solutions, according to George. The bilateral engagement highlights a shift toward regional integration, with both countries leveraging their status as political powerhouses to drive the continent's digital agenda.
