The Ministry of Communication has inaugurated a 10-member Entity Tender Committee to ensure transparency and strategic procurement in Ghana’s growing digital and technology sector.
The committee, chaired by the minister of communication, Samuel Nartey George, will play a critical oversight role in ensuring that procurement practices within the Ministry align with the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663), as amended.
Speaking at the launch ceremony in Accra yesterday, George said the committee is vital for the future of Ghana’s digital transformation.
“With the rapid growth in our tech and innovation sectors, every procurement decision, from digital infrastructure to capacity-building contracts, must be strategic, transparent, and aligned with national development goals,” he stated.
The minister emphasised that the committee’s mandate goes beyond compliance, serving as a pillar for safeguarding public funds and ensuring procurement supports Ghana’s long-term digital agenda.
“Digital governance is not just about technology. It’s also about systems of accountability. This committee is a crucial cog in making our digital future credible and sustainable,” added George.
The swearing-in of the 10 members was administered by Mrs. Marina Appiah Opare, Chief State Attorney, who also led the members in taking the Official and Secrecy Oaths.
Comprising senior figures from finance, policy, HR, procurement, and legal spheres, the committee is expected to review and approve procurement plans, confirm cost ranges, ensure proper disposal of assets, and enforce full compliance with procurement regulations.
As Ghana intensifies efforts to digitise government services, develop local tech talent, and attract ICT investments, George stressed that the Entity Tender Committee is positioned as a strategic safeguard that ensures every dollar spent moves the country closer to its digital and innovation goals.
