Ghana bank looks to electronic technology for convenient banking

Ghana Commercial Bank has introduced new banking technology to ensure that all its branches across the country have electronic banking.

GCB managing director, Simon Dornoo, said the bank would provide a wide range of products and services for the benefit of its customers, including packages for corporate customers.

He said the new banking technology would see improvement in the traditional products of current and savings accounts offering specially designed products and services.

"Some of the services are GCB’s personal loans in 24-hours for regular income earners, doorstep cash collection for retailers and distributors, Kudi Nkosuo for traders, the GCB Kidistar account targeted at children and royal banking targeted at its high net-worth customers," Dornoo said.

Kojo Addai-Mensah, chief operating officer at GCB, said the move to pursue aggressive electronic banking strategies would provide convenience platforms for its customers to transact business.

Addai-Mensa further explains that the deployment of internet banking, mobile banking, ATM’s and the point of sale systems were all part of the bank’s effort to provide modern alternative channels for customers to conveniently do business.

In addition, GCB has taken advantage of an enhanced information technology platform, to introduce a range of e-banking products and services.

These include Commernet Plus (internet banking for both individuals and corporate bodies), Smartpay, SMS banking, MasterCard and Readycash cards that position the bank firmly in the international and local debit cards business.

GCB is the widest networked bank in Ghana with 157 branches, 15 agencies and 204 ATMs and counting. It also has correspondent banks in the United Kingdom, Germany and the United States and in the West Africa Region with Liberia and Sierra Leone.
