Fixed line operator Mozambique Telecommunications Company has launched a service whereby mobile phones can receive faxes from landline phones.
The company said the technology works by handing out codes to subscribers, which can be used by contacts to fax messages directly to subscribers.
Fax messages then appear on users’ mobile phones as text messages.
“This is to facilitate both businessmen and companies operating in the country,” said the company in a statement.
The development of the fax-to-mobile communication technology comes at a time Mozambique is attracting volumes of international business through discoveries of oil, gas, coal, diamonds and gold among others.
According to the telco, the fax-to-mobile service is to be expanded throughout the African nation, including the rural areas.
