Failures with Kenya’s biometric voter registration kits during last month’s elections are to be investigated by the country’s director of public prosecutions (DPP).

The DPP, Keriako Tobiko, has written to Kenya’s Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to launch investigations into the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) regarding glitches that occurred with the system.

In the letter to EACC, Tobiko has also asked the anti-graft body to conduct investigations into the acquisition of the kits and forward a report on the findings to his office for action.

The failure of the BVR kits was a focal point in the just concluded election in Kenya.

Numerous polling stations, reported failure of the BVR systems and forced the electoral body to switch to the manual register.

The DPP has already appointed a team of prosecutors to help the anti-corruption officials with the investigations.
