The Ministry of Telecommunications and digital Economy of Chad is exploring a partnership with Ethio Telecom in key digital transformation areas for the Central African nation.

According to the telco, Ethio Telecom CEO Frehiwot Tamru met with Chad’s ICT Minister, Boukar Michel and his delegation on the sidelines of Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona last week.

The two sides discussed potential areas of cooperation to support Chad’s digital transformation agenda, including the development of telecommunications infrastructure, broadband connectivity expansion through 4G and 5G networks, cloud infrastructure, digital financial services, and initiatives to increase internet-enabled device accessibility.

Minister Michel commended the milestones of Ethiopia’s national operator in recent years and its significant role in accelerating the East African nation’s digital transformation.

He lauded Ethio Telecom’s track record within ICT and telecommunications, including the expansion of telecommunications infrastructure, a nationwide fibre backbone, launching cloud services, mobile money platforms, and innovative device initiatives.

Tamru reaffirmed the company’s readiness to share its experience and expertise in accelerating digital transformation across Africa. As a next step, she proposed sending a technical delegation from Ethio Telecom to Chad to further assess the country’s current telecom infrastructure landscape and explore how Ethio Telecom can support the government’s digitalisation agenda.

“Both sides agreed to continue their engagement following the conclusion of MWC, with plans for Ethio Telecom’s team to visit Chad and work closely with the Ministry to identify concrete areas of collaboration that will support Chad’s digital development ambitions,” said Ethio Telecom in a statement.
