Ericsson has opened a new office in Lusaka, Zambia, with a pledge to support the country’s advancement to fifth generation (5G) cellular network technology and future 6G technologies.

Opened this past weekend, the Ericsson investment goes beyond technology, as, according to the company, it strengthens Zambia’s relations with Sweden and supports the Southern African country’s quest for secure and modern connectivity.

Felix Mutati, Zambia’s minister of science and technology, reiterated the value of partnerships with the private sector in steering the future of Zambia’s digital economy.

“Ericsson’s physical presence in Zambia represents a deeper partnership to accelerate the country’s digital transformation,” Mutati said.

“With strong policy reforms, trusted partnerships, and continued investment in infrastructure and skills, Zambia is well positioned to become a leading digital hub in the region,” Mutati added.

Alain Maupin, Ericsson’s VP for East and North Africa, said, “The new office is a symbol of Ericsson’s long-term investment in Zambia’s digital future.”

Johan Hallenborg, Swedish Ambassador to Zambia, emphasised the importance of trust, security and democratic values in the digital age as the two countries solidified digital partnerships.
