The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company are boosting the country's clean energy efforts by launching two major projects to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and improve grid stability through enhanced storage technologies.

According to a statement, the initiatives will be carried out in collaboration with Hassan Allam Utilities Energy Platform, an investment institution, and Infinity Power, an African renewable energy company.

Under the signed agreements, the consortium will build a 200 MW solar power plant in Benban, one of the country's largest solar parks, with a commercial operation date of the third quarter (Q3) of 2026 and 120 MWh of connected battery storage, as well as a 1,000 MW solar power plant in Minya with 600 MWh of storage capacity and a commercial operation date of the third quarter of 2027.

These major projects will play an important part in supporting Egypt's objective to boost the contribution of renewables to 42% of the entire energy mix by 2030 and 65% by 2040, consolidating the country's position as a regional leader in clean energy and sustainable development.

The projects will entail a total capacity of 1,200 MW of solar power and 720 MWh of battery storage, maximising the role of renewable energy in the national mix, noted the parties.

Omar Hosny, vice president of energy and water, Hassan Allam Utilities, commented: “This agreement represents a meaningful step forward in Egypt’s energy transition. Through our partnership with the Ministry of Electricity and Infinity Power, we are advancing projects that diversify the energy mix, enhance grid resilience, and pave the way for a more sustainable future.”

Ahmed Mulla, deputy CEO of Infinity Power added that the solutions are part of the company’s commitment to drive the North African country’s clean energy transformation and expanding access to sustainable power solutions across the continent.

“We continue to build on our portfolio by delivering advanced solar, storage, and grid technologies that strengthen the country’s energy security and long-term sustainability.”
