The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) in Egypt has signed the largest spectrum deal with local mobile network operators (MNOs) in the history of the country’s ICT sector since the launch of mobile services 30 years ago.
Signed over the weekend, the agreements, which are valued at nearly $3.5 billion, provide MNOs with an additional 410 MHz, equivalent to the total spectrum allocated over the past three decades.
According to the ICT minister, Amr Talaat, the ICT sector has attracted a total of $10 billion during the same period (three decades) for spectrum capacity and operating licences.
Talaat clarified that this deal marks a new pivotal step reflecting MCIT’s commitment to building a human-centric digital society.
The minister went on to explain that the spectrum capacity given under the current agreement has driven up the overall spectrum made accessible to companies since 2019 to 550 MHz, representing a significant expansion in the North African country's spectrum management history.
Furthermore, he asserted that this massive expansion builds on the achievements of June 2025 with the launch of 5G services, ensuring network readiness to accommodate future applications.
He emphasised that, given their significant investment value and clear strategic significance, signing spectrum allocation agreements is more than just a technical procedure, but a long-term strategic step aligning the state's vision with private sector partnership to reshape Egyptian telecom infrastructure.
According to a statement from the ministry: “The ICT minister also thanked MNOs for their long-term investment commitment and their resources to develop networks and enhance service efficiency, in a partnership that reflects confidence in the Egyptian market and the stability of its regulatory policies.
“Additionally, Talaat expressed his appreciation to the team at the National Telecom Regulatory Authority, led by executive president Mohamed Shamroukh, for their dedicated efforts to strengthen constructive partnerships with mobile operators and provide a regulatory environment that supports the development of Egypt’s digital infrastructure.”
