Econet Wireless, Zimbabwe’s largest mobile operator, has signed a deal with US based network solutions firm Sandvine to help the telecoms firm offer services such as roaming notifications, bill shock prevention, family plans and data bundle options.

As part of its financial results released last month, Econet said it plans to extend its offering to other services as its voice revenues are slowing down.

Sandvine is therefore set to enable services for both prepaid and postpaid subscribers on Econet’s network.

Sandvine is exhibiting at AfricaCom, being held 12-14 November in Cape Town, South Africa.

Econet has around 8.5 million subscribers in Zimbabwe, according to its financial results.

"Sandvine's technical accuracy … gives us confidence that as our network and subscriber adoption continues to grow, so too will our service offerings," said Econet Wireless’ general manager for products and services, Leon de Fleuriot on Tuesday.

He added that his company was “committed to maintaining” its “leadership position in Zimbabwe by rolling out new services that meet the growing demand for mobile Internet data across the country."

Econet competes against Telecel Zimbabwe and state run NetOne in the Zimbabwean mobile network industry.
