EcoCash, a Zimbabwean mobile money platform, has upgraded to a super app that includes payment functionality, a chat platform, and other lifestyle services.

This has enabled social payments, allowing users to send and receive money directly from chat conversations without switching apps.

The new EcoCash super app also supports automated bill splitting, enabling users to divide payments for shared costs in real time.

“With mobile devices now central to how people live, work and transact, we have reimagined the EcoCash app to deliver a secure, convenient and integrated digital experience,” EcoCash said today.

EcoCash has been useful in enabling Zimbabweans to pay for international e-commerce and digital services such as Starlink, Google Ads, Netflix and YouTube among others due to its convenience and the large informal nature of the country’s economy.

According to Econet, the new super app is a response to “growing demand for seamless, mobile-first solutions that combine communication and transactions” solutions.

“The platform also supports content monetisation, allowing users to create and earn income directly, targeting Zimbabwe’s growing community of digital creators and small businesses,” said Econet.
