Eng. John Tanui, principal secretary for ICT and the digital Economy, presided over the virtual launch of CyberGame Kenya 2026.

According to a ministry statement, CyberGame Kenya 2026, themed "Securing Kenya's Digital Future," began on March 1, 2026 and will run until May 9, 2026.

The statement went on to explain that this year's event builds on the momentum generated by last year's inaugural event, which highlighted a national need for cybersecurity excellence.

CyberGame Kenya is a tournament for students, professionals, and cybersecurity enthusiasts. It includes Capture The Flag-style challenges and capacity-building exercises to improve Kenya's digital security.

Tanui emphasised that the competition "is not a 'game' in the traditional sense" but a simulation of genuine cyber warfare, urging participants: "In the real world, that flag you are hunting represents a Kenyan's bank account, a hospital's patient records, or a government's secret."

Attendees included Maroš Mitrík, ambassador of the Slovak Republic to Kenya; Emmanuel Kata, secretary, ICT Security Directorate; NC4 and Communications Authority of Kenya representatives; and State Department officers.
