Angola’s largest telecoms operator, Unitel, has listed on the Angolan Debt and Securities Exchange following a public offering that raised 300.3 billion kwanzas (about $329 million).
The listing marks a significant step in Angola’s privatisation programme and capital market development.
The government sold a 15% stake, equivalent to 7.5 million shares, at 40,040 kwanzas per share, with the offering oversubscribed by more than 20% and attracting 17,549 accepted orders.
One million shares were allocated to employees under preferential terms. Unitel said the listing strengthens its commitment to corporate governance and transparency.
“Following the success of the public offering, Unitel’s shares begin trading on BODIVA, marking a milestone that reinforces our commitment to transparency and capital market development,” the company said.
The listing forms part of the government’s PROPRIV programme to reduce state participation in key sectors, with the 15% stake originating from shares nationalised in 2022.
The debut comes as African telecom operators increasingly turn to capital markets to fund network expansion and digital infrastructure.
However, the listing coincided with a network disruption.
Unitel said it detected a cyberattack on its infrastructure at 02:20 local time on Tuesday, less than 24 hours before trading began.
The operator said the incident affected voice, mobile data and internet services nationwide for its more than 21 million customers.
Unitel said response and containment protocols were activated immediately, with technical and cybersecurity teams working to stabilise the network and trace the source of the attack.
Services remained partially disrupted as recovery efforts continued.
