Africa Mobile Networks is currently constructing additional network sites, which will bring the total to 360 sites by the end of the year.

Africa Mobile Networks (AMN) and SES, a global satellite operator, recently upgraded over 200 telecom sites in Côte d'Ivoire to provide reliable 2G and 3G mobile data services, bringing connectivity to over 500,000 people in rural and previously underserved areas.

According to the companies, the upgrades were completed between May and June of this year, representing a significant milestone in a collaborative effort to provide affordable communications infrastructure to remote areas.

To further support this initiative, the telecom infrastructure company is currently building additional sites, bringing the total number of sites to 360 by the end of the year. The company's first 4G sites are expected to go live this month, further improving mobile data access and user experience across the country.

Additionally, SES has expanded satellite capacity for AMN, enabling faster, reliable connectivity to meet the growing demand for data services in the West African nation.

As data usage continues to surge, SES will further scale its capacity to strengthen AMN’s ongoing network growth and service enhancements across the country.

“These upgrades not only bring internet access to remote regions but also empower local businesses, farmers, and families through digital inclusion. Connectivity is a catalyst for economic growth, by extending reliable voice and data services to rural areas, we are helping communities unlock new opportunities for learning, trade and innovation,” said Michael Darcy, CEO of AMN.

Jean-Philippe Gillet, president, fixed and maritime vertical at SES added: “As a long-standing partner of AMN, we fully believe in the transformative impact of their work, it is vital in bringing reliable connectivity to underserved and unserved communities across Africa.”
