Malawi and China have inked a grant agreement worth $43 million (K75.29 billion) to support key infrastructure and digital reforms.
The funds will be used to extend the M1 Road from Kanengo to Lilongwe's Kamuzu International Airport, as well as to implement the government's digitisation agenda.
During the signing event in Lilongwe, Lu Xu, China's Ambassador to Malawi, praised Malawi as a close partner.
She stated that development represents the two nations' common ambitions and emphasised that cooperation remained the most reliable path to success.
Minister of Finance, Joseph Mwanamvekha, commended the Chinese government for supporting Malawi's development goals.
He stated that the government will ensure that the funds be used prudently and exclusively for the specified objectives, resulting in notable impact.
China has historically financed projects in Malawi, such as the National Parliament Building, Bingu International Convention Centre, Malawi University of Science and Technology, Bingu National Stadium, and the National Fibre Backbone Project.
Construction of the Judicial Complex is now underway.
