The era of artificial intelligence (AI) presents unlimited opportunities and great potential for cooperation with Botswana, says Fan Yong, Chinese Ambassador to Botswana.
Young expressed optimism in a media note released in Gaborone.
The envoy said Botswana is undergoing economic transformation, and AI offers a significant opportunity to deepen bilateral cooperation and support the country’s economic diversification.
“Intelligent technology can empower the upgrading of the mining industry, improving quality and efficiency,” says Yong.
He adds: “Mining is a pillar industry in Botswana, and China can leverage its mature AI technology and industrial ecosystem to empower the construction of smart mining in Botswana, helping the country improve resource development efficiency and product added value, injecting new momentum into economic transformation."

China is willing to share its experience in digital transformation to assist Botswana in building an efficient and transparent digital government system, effectively improving social governance efficiency and public service delivery, says Fan.
He went on to say exchanges can deepen talent cultivation and build future potential.
China looks forward to more cooperation with Botswana in areas such as academic exchanges, technical training, and joint research and development, says Fan.
This aims to jointly cultivate interdisciplinary talent to meet the needs of the digital age and provide intellectual support for AI cooperation between the two countries.
Yong says China will provide 5,000 training opportunities in AI for developing countries over the next five years and establish international AI application cooperation centres for organisations such as the African Union.
President Xi Jinping of China announced this in July at the World AI Conference and High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance in Shanghai.
“These pragmatic measures have opened new windows for developing countries, including Botswana, to participate in the development of AI,” Yong concludes.
