With the debut of ChatGTP Go, OpenAI, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) research and deployment company, has turned its attention to Africa.
The offering is a new tier of subscription plan designed to give more people access to ChatGPT's expanded capabilities at a lower cost.
The debut of ChatGTP Go coincides with the continent's fast adoption of AI. The expansion into 54 African countries responds to high global demand for low-cost subscriptions.
Since launching ChatGPT Go in India in August, the number of paid subscribers more than doubled in a month, with positive feedback from users, noted the firm.
It went on to say the subscription plan makes it easier for people to use ChatGPT for skills development such as translation, learning or teaching, writing, and improving productivity.
ChatGPT Go customers have access to ChatGPT's most popular features, such as greater message limits, image generation, file uploads, and RAM, all driven by OpenAI's latest flagship multi-modal AI model, GPT-5.
“Millions of people across Africa are already using ChatGPT to learn new skills, solve everyday problems and start businesses. With ChatGPT Go, we want to make AI affordable and accessible so everyone can benefit from it,” commented Nick Turley, vice president and head of ChatGPT.
