The Cameroon Telecommunications Regulatory Board has opened a new office in Yaounde.

According to the regulator, the changes are intended to reinforce its mandate of regulating, controlling, and monitoring electronic communications services.

On October 20, the prime minister, Joseph Dion Ngute, unveiled the 11-story building nicknamed "Platinum Building."

The Platinum Building, shaped like a mobile phone and covering an area of 2,050 m2, will house the telecoms regulator's equipment - an ultramodern system for monitoring on- and off-net traffic, as well as mobile money transactions.

The $30.7 million structure has a 250-seat multipurpose hall, 220 offices, a data centre, videoconferencing facilities, and WiFi 6 wireless access points.

During the launch, PM Ngute stated, "The telecommunications sector has been identified as a growth lever in our National Development Strategy on the basis of planned investment and development assumptions. By 2030, the telecommunications industry is predicted to grow by 6.4%. The Telecommunications Regulatory Board is an important part of this process."
