Mobile network users in Cameroon are protesting against poor telecommunications services provided by the country's two main operators, MTN and Orange, raising concerns about network reliability and the rapid depletion of data bundles.

The protest, held last Friday in the form of a boycott, was organised by prominent Cameroonian content creators, social media influencers and digital rights campaigners.

Subscribers have complained about dropped calls, slow internet speeds, frequent network outages and data bundles depleting rapidly without clear usage tracking. They say the disruptions affect communication, business transactions and access to digital services.

“It is exactly six days now and my home box is not working. After 30 days, the subscription expires, and no compensation. We need a better network,” said Kelvin Cham, an MTN subscriber.

Cham said he continued to pay for internet bundles that he could not use for days at a time, without receiving refunds from the operator.

The protests highlight growing consumer frustration over mobile service quality in a country where connectivity is increasingly important for commerce, financial transactions and access to information.

ITWeb Africa was unable to independently verify the scale of the protests by the time of publication.

Cameroon's telecommunications market is served by MTN Cameroon, Orange Cameroun and Camtel, alongside other providers and internet service companies.

In recent months, service quality has reportedly deteriorated, with subscribers complaining of prolonged disruptions to voice and internet services, including slow, unreliable or unavailable connections.
