Wholesale provider of national and international telecommunication infrastructure Botswana Fibre Networks (BoFinet) has reportedly cut internet prices by up to 40%.
The Botswana Gazette is reporting that BoFinet chief executive officer Mabua Mabua made the announcement earlier this week.
“As BoFinet we have come up with strategies to make our wholesale internet tariffs very competitive. When we launched BoFinet last year we entered the market with wholesale internet tariffs that were between 30- 59 percent lower than average market rates then. Today the new tariffs are between 40- 70 percent below the ones that were launched last year,” Mabua said according to the newspaper.
The newspaper has further revealed that Mabua said BoFinet, which is government owned, is working to expand a 6,000km long national fibre backbone by a further 1,000km.
The company is reportedly also planning to introduce fibre to businesses in the likes of Gaborone and Francistown.
