Botswana’s first science and technology park has put out an expression of interest to potential tenants ahead of the much anticipated opening of the project in 2014.
The developers of the park, Botswana Innovation Hub (BIH), have said construction of the 31,000 square metre facility is to kick off during the first quarter of 2013.
“BIH invites local and international knowledge business operations to be tenants of the planned state-of-the art iconic building to be developed in a prime new business district of Gaborone near Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (SSKIA),” said Alan Boshwaen, chief executive of BIH.
The multi-use building is targeted at businesses in the fields of information and communication technology (ICT), mining technologies, energy and environment, biotechnology and other knowledge intensive services.
According to BIH, the firm plans to install high-capacity bandwidth and superior telecommunication infrastructure at the premises to house companies that deliver technology or knowledge intensive services and products, preferable for export.
Boshwaen further said the facility is to accommodate specialised institutes and centres of excellence including world class business schools and e-learning providers.
