Botswana has lauded its longstanding partnership with Huawei in its drive to build a knowledge-based and digitally inclusive economy.
Shawn Ntlhaile, assistant minister of communications and innovation, encouraged the expansion of such partnerships during his keynote address at the Huawei Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Congress 2026 in Gaborone.
The congress was held under the theme: “Advancing All Intelligence.”
The assistant minister said the fourth industrial revolution is already reshaping societies and economies globally, making digital transformation an urgent national priority for Botswana.
Ntlhaile went on to say that broadband expansion, cloud technologies, and artificial intelligence are central to Botswana’s development agenda.
"Through initiatives such as the Village Connectivity Project, the government continues to expand high-speed internet access to rural communities, schools, and healthcare facilities as part of efforts to bridge the digital divide and ensure inclusive participation in the digital economy," the Ministry said in a statement.
Ntlhaile also stated that Botswana is moving beyond simply connecting people to developing intelligent and interconnected systems that can drive innovation, productivity, and enhanced public services.
On e-Government transformation, the assistant minister stated that Botswana has been accelerating the digitisation of government services to promote efficiency, transparency, and accessibility for all residents.
He emphasised the significance of strategic alliances in achieving national digital aspirations, recognising Huawei as a long-standing partner in Botswana's ICT development path.
