MTN Business Botswana has partnered with Canadian firm Ethica to launch a cutting-edge connectivity solution designed to keep enterprises online even during network outages

The MTN SDIA (Software-Defined Intelligent Access), a next-generation internet solution, is designed to strengthen Botswana’s digital economy and enhance uptime for local businesses.

The collaboration aims to address persistent last-mile connectivity challenges across the country, where internet penetration now stands at approximately 73%, according to the Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority.

Despite this progress, many businesses, particularly small and medium enterprises and organisations in remote areas, continue to face network reliability and uptime issues.

Through Ethica’s CloudAccess platform, MTN SDIA enables enterprises to automatically switch between multiple internet links when a connection fails, ensuring that operations continue without interruption.

The system also aggregates bandwidth from different providers, improving speed, reliability and application performance across distributed business networks.

Alan Zimmermann, CEO of Ethica, lauded MTN Business Botswana for taking the lead in how connectivity is delivered in the region.

“By embedding CloudAccess into their service stack, they are enabling their customers to trust the internet for what it’s become: the backbone of modern business,” he said.

Oteng Mogomela, head of sales and marketing at MTN Business Botswana, said the partnership is central to MTN’s mission to power the country’s digital transformation.

“This is about going beyond connectivity. Our enterprise customers want assurance that their operations won’t pause when an internet link does. CloudAccess gives us the ability to deliver on that expectation—consistently and at scale,” he stated.

MTN Business Botswana, part of the MTN Group, already serves major clients such as Debswana, Stanbic Bank Botswana, and Botswana Post, while service providers and enterprises in South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, and Canada deploy Ethica’s CloudAccess technology.

By introducing MTN SDIA, the company said it aims to enhance business continuity, empower remote work, and strengthen the overall resilience of Botswana’s digital economy.

“Intelligent connectivity is the foundation for an inclusive, thriving digital future and that’s the future we are building for Botswana,” said Mogomela.
