BlackBerry’s latest mobile device the Q5 is expected to be available for purchase in South Africa at various authorised carriers and retailers sometime in July.
This is according to the smartphone maker, which announced yesterday that the BlackBerry Q5 smartphone comes with a touch-screen and a QWERTY keypad feature.
Launched earlier this year, the Q5 smartphones has been positioned to be what the Curve was to BlackBerry 7 operating systems (OS).
The new range, however, runs on the BlackBerry 10.1 software.
Available in black and white colour models, the Q5 has a 3.1” touchscreen with features and apps that work seamlessly together.
The BlackBerry Q5 smartphone also boasts the Q10 and Z10 hub feature that allows users to peek into messages, social networks and call registers.
The launch of the smartphone in the southern African country comes just after BlackBerry reported dismal quarterly results as the company struggles to compete with Apple’s iPhone and Samsung Galaxy smartphones.
According to reports, BlackBerry only managed to ship 2.7 million BB10 devices, shy of market expectations of more than 3 million shipments for its new Z10 and Q10 smartphones.
By comparison, Apple shipped 37.4 million iPhones in the March quarter up from 35.1 million a year ago, according to Reuters.
