BlackBerry has announced the availability of new features for the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) to enhance privacy and control over communications.

A statement from the Company detailed a number of privacy and control features including timed messages and message retraction. Windows Phone users will also gain access to the BBM Shop, allowing them to purchase BBM Stickers.

Features introduced today include:

Timed Messages: By setting a timer the user can control how long shared messages and pictures are viewed within BBM. According to BlackBerry the message is hidden until the recipient touches and holds on the chat. Then, once the timer has expired (or if the recipient takes their finger off the screen), the message is no longer visible. "The user also receives a notification if BBM detects that the recipient has taken a screenshot of the image or message," the Company stated.

Message Retraction: Users can now retract their message to remove it from their BBM chat before it has been read by the recipient or after it has been read so that it is no longer visible.

HD Picture Transfer: BlackBerry says "It's easier than ever" to receive a high quality version of the pictures in BBM.
