Nigerian online marketplace Bolfyng has partnered with Canadian-based technology company Biddingo to launch an internet bidding system that officials believe could help with the awarding of government tenders.

In an interview, Kehinde Kassim, director of Bolfyng, said e-bidding for tenders could ensure transparency in awarding local projects.

Kassim said his company's technical partner is a leading world provider of e-purchasing, e-tendering and e-bidding solutions. In Canada, Biddingo provides an online portal that connects consumers to suppliers providing various goods and services from the provincial, municipal, education, housing and healthcare among others.

“Our partner Biddingo has transformed many organisations, municipalities, state and federal government purchasing units in Canada and United States to an e-purchasing platform. The e-tendering solution will help transform procurement units to electronic tendering units thus promoting transparency, fairness and openness in bid posting and awarding, as stipulated by Section 2 of the Procurement Act,” said Kassim.

He said the Canadian firm’s services include: online bid/tender creation, posting and publishing by procurement team within minutes, cheaper advertising, and instant notification on bids posted for suppliers, and daily and auto count down on bids closing date among others.

With the technology, he said the procurement team could be directly connected to suppliers as well as suppliers worldwide.

Kassim said electronic tendering is backed by Section 40 of the Nigerian procurement Act of 2007.
