Kenya’s Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) has signed a collaboration agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to drive cloud adoption, digital skills development and infrastructure deployment across the country.
Senior leadership from both organisations, along with government stakeholders, signed the pact during a ceremony at the technopolis.
Under the deal, AWS will provide technical leadership for an AWS Outpost at Konza to enable hybrid cloud solutions, while establishing a Startup and Innovation Centre of Excellence.
The agreement focuses on four priority areas: business development, skills training, technology alignment and start-up enablement.
Public sector institutions will receive support for cloud adoption, while KoTDA staff and Kenyan youth will gain access to AWS certification courses and technical mentorship. Start-ups will also receive AWS credits and partner access.
“This collaboration agreement marks an important milestone in our journey towards steering the country to a knowledge-based economy,” said KoTDA CEO John Paul Okwiri.
He added that the partnership brings together global cloud expertise and Kenya’s ambition to build a resilient, skills-driven digital economy.
Innovators, start-ups and local businesses will gain access to the infrastructure required to scale solutions globally, while positioning the site as a destination for technology investment in East Africa.
“We have identified immediate areas of action that will realise benefits for Kenyan youth, innovators and technology professionals alike,” said AWS Regional Lead for public sector in West, East and Central Africa Robin Njiru.
Njiru went on to say the initiative connects global cloud capabilities with local digital economy ambitions, while strengthening opportunities for local talent and technology enterprises.
