Angola Cables has entered into a partnership with fibre provider Uniti Wholesale to expand transatlantic network connectivity between Africa and the US.

The agreement combines Angola Cables’ submarine cable infrastructure, including the South Atlantic Cable System, MONET and West Africa Cable System, with Uniti Wholesale’s terrestrial fibre network across the US.

The partnership also includes provisions for additional network capacity to meet growing hyperscale and enterprise demand.

Angola Cables said the deal strengthens its position in the global telecommunications market, while expanding Uniti Wholesale’s reach into high-growth international markets.

Ângelo Gama, CEO of Angola Cables, said the partnership would benefit wholesale customers, enterprises, content providers and carriers across Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Europe.

He said the arrangement would also provide customers with access to Uniti Wholesale’s network, which spans more than 300 metro markets and 386,000km of fibre infrastructure across the US.

Gama said the connectivity would particularly benefit companies in sectors such as oil and gas that require secure and stable international data links.

He said  “This direct connectivity will be especially beneficial for companies operating in the upstream oil and gas sector, for example, that require stable and secure digital connectivity to share sensitive and proprietary data linked to exploration operations off the coast of Africa or South America.”

Gama said the same applied to industries including aviation, transport and logistics, as well as healthcare companies working with US partners on medical equipment and precision instruments.

He continued: “Secure, multi-gigabyte international connections are now vital for enterprises expanding into foreign markets or connecting their international operations.”

Greg Ortyl, executive vice president and president of Strategic Accounts at Uniti Wholesale, said: “Facilitating access to our extensive domestic fibre network will open new opportunities for seamless transatlantic services and support the growing bandwidth needs of our shared customers.”

Gama concluded: “By integrating our international backbone with Uniti’s US fibre network, we are empowering businesses in Africa and emerging markets with reliable, high-speed access to the world’s largest economy.”
